U.S. real estate investment trusts and investment-grade U.S. bonds performed best in August for the strongest monthly gain since January. For the fourth month in a row, the MSCI REIT index gained a 3.4% return for the month. Emerging market stocks performed the worst of the major asset classes with a 4.9% loss for the month.
