Richard Feynman Books Heading to Auction

Few items from Nobel Prize-Winning Physicist Richard Feynman come to auction very often, mostly for the fact that he donated his entire archives to Caltech. November 30th Sotheby’s is set to auction off several items Feynman personally used, including a book that helped him win the Nobel Prize in 1965. Fine Books Magazine has this excerpt of the Feynman book, “The Principles of Quantum Mechanics,”

Laden with Feynman’s handwritten diagrams, formulas, and other marginal notes, the book gives a snapshot of a young genius’s brain taking shape and readying to rise to the challenge of its final line: “It seems that some essentially new physical ideas are here needed.” A tantalizing Feynman annotation appears in a section on the polarization of photons: “Analyze this some-day.”
